Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate post within the School of Chemistry and the Division of Infection Immunity and Respiratory Medicine.
You will be based in the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology. The post is available immediately and will be available on a fixed term basis for 18 months.
The Research Associate will contribute to our research in identification of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can be used as biomarkers of pathogens and disease. The work is highly multidisciplinary and is based on two projects: (i) VOCs in fungal disease in apples and (ii) analysis of human breath. You will analyse the metabolites present in either the headspace of infected apples or in breath samples principally by Thermal Desorption-Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. You will also be responsible for the maintenance of instrumentation, safe-keeping of samples and curation of records whilst liaising with the rest of the multidisciplinary team.
