Within the Faculty of Business and Law, Newcastle Business School has an outstanding reputation in the delivery of business relevant programmes that are underpinned by research. The School was the first in Europe to gain AACSB accreditation in Business and Accounting from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), positioning it as part of an elite group of business schools worldwide. Newcastle Business School currently has 4,500 students based in a £70m iconic state-of-the-art city centre campus in Newcastle. Over 40% of our publication outputs and 60% of our impact case studies were assessed as internationally excellent or world leading in the last Research Excellence Framework (REF). In late 2015, Newcastle Business School won the prestigious Times Higher Education Business School of the Year award.
The Accounting and Financial Management has a growing portfolio of teaching within the UK and overseas including Hong Kong, Singapore, and within the Middle East. There are currently three professors in the department with an ambition to expand these numbers to support bidding and research outputs. Current areas of research include (inter alia) risk, money laundering and financial crime, socially responsible investment, disclosure and corporate governance. We are working to develop a further area of data analytics that will bring together research, teaching, and enterprise aspects. Experiential learning is a key activity within the Business School and student satisfaction is at the centre of all we do.
As the successful candidate, you will already hold a senior position within academia. You will take a leading role in contributing to the ongoing development and growth of relevant teaching, research, and consulting activities and be able to provide leadership within the broad area of Accounting and Finance. Leading major innovations in linking research and knowledge transfer through existing and future industrial/commercial collaborations is also a key aspect of the role. Through personal publications, you will be in a position to make a significant contribution to the next Research Excellence Framework. As a University leader, you will exemplify our values of collegiality and citizenship.
You must have extensive and detailed knowledge and subject expertise evidenced by research and consultancy and be able to foster and develop collaborative links with academic, business, third sector and public sector partners. As well as having a strong publication record and evidence of ability to generate research income, commensurate with the title of Professor, you must have the ability to empower people in a professional environment.
