EEECS is one of the largest and most dynamic schools in the University. We undertake internationally competitive research within the Global Research Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology (ECIT), a Pioneer Research Program on Intelligent Autonomous Manufacturing Systems (iAMS), and overlapping core disciplinary research themes spanning electronics and computer engineering; energy, power and intelligent control; physical layer wireless; signals and systems; scalable computing; software engineering; data science and analytics; artificial intelligence; and cybersecurity.
The School also has a number of successful degree programmes in computing including core degrees in computer science and software engineering alongside a range of specialist masters. We have established a software academy that is housed in our new £14m Computer Science building. Through the academy, we teach contemporary software engineering practices alongside a range of distance and blended learning conversion programmes for those wishing to advance into careers in software development.
The successful candidate will be a highly qualified and motivated academic with the expertise to help develop and drive our internationally leading mission-led research programmes.
The School aims to make significant contributions to tackling real-world global challenges and areas of major societal need, through interdisciplinary, collaborative and transformational research. This recruitment is part of a strategic expansion of research activities in computer science that underpins our ambitious research plans and supports our educational activities.
We seek to appoint a candidate with an excellent record of achievement and significant potential for future academic leadership in any area of computer science research and they should have an interest in any of the following areas:
- Programming languages, software engineering and computing systems for high-performance computing, cloud and mobile
- Artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science and analytics
- Software systems for cyber security
- Cognitive robotics, intelligent automation and cyber physical systems.
