Brunel Design is seeking to appoint an experienced industrial design practitioner with expertise in contemporary design practice and new product development to enhance the delivery of our Industrial and Product Design teaching programmes.
This Education track position will focus primarily on the teaching of design skills related to professional practice and the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate broad industry-standard expertise across a range of practice areas such as such as product design and development digital sketching CAD creativity and aesthetic awareness digital design and digital technologies design for manufacture strategic design and innovation management product service systems and human-centred design.
Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in Industrial Design or Product Design and be experienced both in contemporary professional design practice and design education. It is expected that the appointee will bring significant expertise in design practice and innovative design teaching and will be able to contribute to the enhancement of educational excellence within the University.
Brunel Design has an outstanding reputation for design education and research both nationally and internationally. It offers six design programmes at Undergraduate and Masters levels which are built on a broad interdisciplinary and industry relevant platform of creative design skills technical knowledge and practical experience fostered through extensive industry collaborations. The quality of these programmes is reflected in excellent educational ratings and high graduate employability. Brunel Design has recently moved into new facilities and offers staff and students a modern and vibrant teaching environment combined with extensive digital design and prototyping facilities.
The appointee will contribute significantly to the teaching of programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels with a view to assuming programme directorship or another departmental managerial role. The role will require relevant industry expertise skills knowledge and understanding combined with significant teaching experience and applicants must be able to articulate a clear vision for achieving excellence in teaching and curriculum development.
An essential consideration for the appointment is broad expertise in design teaching and the ability to nurture design students and provide them with a high quality learning experience. In addition you will have empathy for interdisciplinary working and will be expected to work creatively across the subject area taking an integrated approach to design teaching. Candidates must be self-motivated with good interpersonal and relationship-building skills and a passion for design education.
The successful candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to the teaching environment of Brunel Design enhancing the student experience and assume a leading role in industry and community engagement activities such as Made in Brunel.
