IT Security Manager at University of Salford

The University of Salford is defining a new model for higher education. Just as the University helped to power the last industrial revolution, today we are set to provide the next generation workforce that are immersed in interdisciplinary thinking, are digitally literate and work ready.

Now an outstanding opportunity exists to be part of the next phase for IT at the University as we relaunch the division as ‘Digital IT’ to support our new Digital strategy, ‘Catalyst’. With this comes a great opportunity to help shape and further develop the Universities strategy around IT Security.

The IT Security Manager will report to the Associate Director – Digital Strategy Office, and plays an integral part in the development, implementation and compliance of technical security across the University. The focus of the role is on the security and integrity of the IT infrastructure on premise and in the cloud.

The IT Security Manager will collect and report performance metrics in a way that supports the business value of good security and respond quickly and effectively to new threats and vulnerabilities. Making use of appropriate IT security tools and methodologies ensures regular vulnerability scans, audits and assessments happen, reporting on findings, providing recommendations and priorities for corrective action.

You will also be responsible for managing the development and on-going implementation of the organisations cyber security strategy and objectives, as well as implementing and improving procedures and processes to optimise information security effectiveness.

Given the scale of change required, you will need to be ready for a challenge, resilient, able to take a long-term view and take accountability for delivering against the plan.

The successful candidate will join at an exciting and demanding time where you will be expected to ‘hit the ground running’, be able to adapt to the current situation and lead the change required.
