Head of School of Education and Social Sciences – University of Hull

The University of Hull is on a journey, one that is led by our commitment to delivering excellent research and a fantastic student experience. Over the last few years the higher education landscape has altered dramatically, and it is imperative as a University that we do not stand still. We are committed to evolving our approach to ensure that we meet the needs of our students, regional, national and global collaborators and partners, both now and in the future.

Part of the Faculty of Arts, Cultures and Education, the School of Education and Social Sciences brings together students, practitioners and researchers who examine the foundations of society, with those who want to help shape the society of tomorrow. A key strength of the School is its network of robust partnerships with educational institutions, social justice and legal groups, and community organisations – providing placement and engagement opportunities to bring learning and research to life. Students and staff in Education are dedicated to learning about how we learn and our teacher training programmes prepare professionals for 21st century classrooms – from technology enabled environments to forest school settings. In the Social Sciences, we undertake research and study into how social life is lived in all its complexity and cultural diversity and explore the causes of crime and societal responses in one of the country’s most prestigious centres for Criminology.

With a keen focus on performance and pursuing excellence in all that we do, we are looking for a new Head of School to provide strong and ambitious leadership to help continue our growth and build on our interdependent academic offer. This is a high-profile leadership appointment that requires both academic credibility and the ability to provide leadership and vision in promoting excellence in learning and teaching as well as research and enterprise, creating an environment in which these can flourish.

This is a time of great opportunity for the University of Hull. If you are keen to pursue a stimulating, challenging and professionally fulfilling career, we want to hear from you.
