Grants Manager at Arcadia Fund

Arcadia, a charitable fund set up by Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin in 2002, has awarded more than $184 million to environmental causes to date. From 2018, the amount we can give each year for environmental programmes is increasing to $50 million.

As we are expanding our support for environmental causes, we have decided to recruit a new Grants Manager with a PhD in environmental sciences/conservation biology to support development and delivery. We are looking for someone with a keen interest in, and experience in, the fields of biodiversity conservation and habitat restoration, who wants to harness the power of philanthropy to make a real impact.

Arcadia has a longstanding commitment to supporting the attainment of lasting biodiversity-conservation outcomes, the development and enforcement of environmental laws, and the training of conservation professionals. The successful candidate would play an important role in the development, management and evaluation of our international portfolio of grants, and the provision of advice on, and identification of opportunities for, projects concerning practical biodiversity conservation and habitat restoration.

The successful candidate would be part of a small team that covers all aspects of our mission and would report to the Director of Environmental Programmes and to the Principal Advisor. More information can be found on our website www.arcadiafund.org.uk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To research and develop environmental funding opportunities.
  • To support the evaluation of existing funding streams.
  • To manage a significant environmental grant portfolio and monitor ongoing grant performance.
  • To provide advice and facilitate the implementation of projects concerning practical habitat restoration/rewilding.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • PhD in environmental sciences/conservation biology.
  • Demonstrable interest in conservation, preferably with experience of evaluation.
  • Strong networking skills – able to build and maintain contacts in the philanthropic and academic sectors.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, including analytical report writing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Numerate, able to handle, analyse and interpret quantitative information.
  • Experience conducting fieldwork – preferably including habitat restoration.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Confident use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Confident use of databases.

This is a full-time, permanent role, 35 hours per week, based in Central London, attracting a salary in the region of £50,000 per annum depending on experience, plus an excellent employment benefits package including 25 days annual leave, employer contribution only pension scheme, life assurance and healthcare schemes.
