We are seeking to recruit a part-time Events Organiser to provide support for EMBL-EBI events, which include onsite and offsite courses and workshops, conference exhibitions and closed meetings. You will join a small peer group of events organisers which forms part of the Training Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) located at the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.
Your primary goal will be to contribute to the smooth running and high standards of EMBL-EBI’s diverse and highly acclaimed programme of training and industry events. You will be responsible for the administration of events from initial concept to post-event wrap up, including:
- booking accommodation and travel for speakers and trainers,
- helping event applicants with their enquiries,
- promotion (including keeping the web pages for your events up to date),
- onsite support during the events themselves,
- budget reconciliation and
The role is likely to involve some out-of-hours work, including occasional work at weekends. International travel may also be required from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience
There are no formal qualifications required for this role although a diploma or degree in an events or business management related subject would be an asset.
You will have been responsible for organising events, ideally ranging from ten to more than 100 participants, from start to finish and will be familiar with the needs of professionals travelling to international events as speakers and delegates. You will be comfortable planning several events simultaneously and working seamlessly with colleagues to cover for planned and unplanned absences. You will be a self-motivated individual with excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, able to work effectively as a part of a team and keep calm under pressure.
A strong service ethic is a prerequisite and the ability to make delegates feel well looked after is crucial. You will have experience of database entry and management and a good knowledge of MS Office applications (especially Excel and Word), email and internet applications. You will have excellent written and spoken English language skills and an ambition to work in an international environment.
