Founded in 1845 as Queen’s College Belfast, we became an independent university in 1908. Today, we’re a member of the Russell Group, combining excellence in research and education with a student-centred ethos.
The Centre is at the forefront of Physics research not only at Queen’s University but in the UK. Staff are experts in materials science at the nano scale and perform a wide range of research into many topics and areas, including thin films, crystals, plasmonics, ferroelectrics, microscopy and more.
The successful candidate will effectively aid the management and promotion of the Electron Microscope Facility, ensuring the delivery and development of a professional service that fully meets with the needs of Academic and Research staff in the School and across the University. They will assist in the development and expansion of links and service provision with other academic institutions, external commercial users and regional business throughout the United Kingdom, and Europe. The successful post holder will also deputise for the School of Maths and Physics Facilities manager.

The successful candidate must have:
- A degree in Life Sciences or Physics
- A minimum of 3 years’ practical experience (which may include training) on electron microscopy techniques such as TEM imaging, Electron diffraction, bright/dark field imaging, scanning transmission electron microscopy, EDX, etc. and relevant data analysis.
- Experience working on multiple (or satellite) projects and being part of collaborations.
- Experience in FIB techniques and TEM sample preparation.
