Business Development Manager at University of Chester

Fixed term contract until 20th December 2019

The University of Chester has embarked on an ambitious project to transform its commercial agenda. This covers the generation, protection and exploitation of intellectual property, collaborative research and development, business development, business support and business incubation. The Commercial Operations directorate has been formed to advance this agenda, and seeks interactions with a wide range of innovative businesses. Following the launch of the Cheshire and Warrington Business Support Programme, funded from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), we are looking for a Business Development Manager to join the team delivering this project, and to forge links between existing clients and the University.

The post-holder will join a Business Development team focused on attracting new clients to the University, stimulating collaboration between clients and the Faculty of Science and Engineering and working with SMEs to support their growth. BDM work will be centred on support for businesses operating across a range of sectors, including energy, automotive, advanced manufacturing and environmental technologies, with the overall goal to assist them to grow, creating new products and processes and generating jobs. Working with the wider Commercial Operations team, the post-holder will be part of a vibrant, entrepreneurial network at the Thornton Science Park.

You will be educated to Honours degree level or equivalent in a STEM discipline and ideally hold a Postgraduate or equivalent professional business qualification. You will have significant experience of working in or with innovative or high tech businesses, and of working at the interface between academia and industry. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of developing relationships and generating commercial outcomes, and will display excellent interpersonal and team working skills. Experience of ERDF funded projects is desirable.
